Farminton Police Department Victim Assistance Program

The Farmington Police Department Victim Assistant Program consists of two full-time victim advocates. The program provides services for crime victims, trainings for law enforcement and the greater community; and participates in various multidisciplinary groups.

The victim advocates provide system-based advocacy services for victims of violent crimes, with a majority being domestic violence and sexual assault. These services include the following:
  • Serving as liaisons between victims and the criminal justice system (communication)
    • Informing victims of their rights and advocating for those rights
    • Explaining the criminal justice process
    • Informing victims of court dates
    • Assisting victims with statements at sentencing
  • Crisis Intervention
    • Assisting victims with obtaining orders of protection
    • Shelter placement/victim relocation
    • Safety Planning
  • Support Services
    • Assisting victims with Crime Victims Reparation Commission (CVRC) application process
    • Providing support during court hearings, safehouse interviews, depositions, etc.
    • Arranging for transportation to court proceedings or other related appointments
